Loosely based on the practical organizing philosophy of the late Saul Alinsky, The Street Primer was published in 1976 by The New England Center for Community Organizers and used as a training manual.
The author organized an number of successful campaigns in New England during the 1970's including, The United Tenant Organizations of Rhode Island, The Jamaica Plain Banking and Mortgage Committee and The Boston Anti-Redlining Coalition and Get Action in New Bedford (GAIN).
The Street Primer gives a practical step by step approach to organizing local communities around self-defined issues. The language is simple and straightforward and the tactics discussed have proven themselves countless times in local settings throughout New England. It is short explicit and to the point. What more could a busy activist ask?
